Memoir

Freedom with fear is no freedom at all.

Freedom from fear is gained only when you fall,

into the darkest pools of your mind and soul,

without air to breath, against a strong tide’s flow,

it will let lose your heart and let you go.

When you surface a reborn man,

courage is not, on what you will stand,

but on the knowledge you gained on blood stained sand.

Many men will not resurface.

They will be swallowed up with seemingly no purpose.

And your greatest tragedy, your greatest sorrow,

is living where they died, and losing your thrill of tomorrow.

The greatest lesson you will learn,

from these dark waters that forever burn,

is that evil walks in the form of man,

with righteousness in mind and Qur’an in hand.
